Unlike Little Dragons or TKD Kickboxing, Taekwondo is a complete martial art. Taekwondo students are expected to have good discipline, be committed to their training, follow the school rules, and lead by example. The school rules and policies are not negotiable, they are to be followed at all times and we expect parents of younger students to re-enforce these.
Please think carefully before enrolling with us. ITF Taekwondo is one of the most demanding, yet most effective and rewarding martial arts in existence. It is important for potential beginners to be aware that everything in Taekwondo must be earned.
PROMOTINAL GRADINGS
Assessment is a very important part of the Taekwondo curriculum. At the Ellon Taekwondo Club we do not want our members to be pushed or pressured to do things before they are ready, and that is why there are adequate intervals between each grading assessment. This gives members the opportunity to rectify any technical errors from their previous test, and to learn their new techniques and patterns.
Aberdeenshire Blackbelt Clubs have two types of promotional gradings:
A whole school grading - This is where all colour belt members are required to test. Whole school gradings are conducted twice a year, usually January and June. Whole school gradigns are mandatory to all colour belt members.
Invitation only - Where individuals are progressing at a faster rate, due to good attendance, extra practice or participation in courses and/or competitions, they will be invited to take part in an additional promotional test.
All colour belt members must be assessed at least once within a period of 6 months. Some members will be assessed twice within the 6-month period, depending on their ability. Any member who does not want to take part in promotional gradings, should NOT enrol in the ITF Taekwondo programme.
